Funding Hit's $2 Million!
Rotary Districts 5950 and 5960 have partnered with World Vision and Haiti Outreach for a $2 million safe water project in the Central Plateau Region of Haiti. The project will drill and repair 141 wells, build 1,200 latrines and provide health and sanitation education in the Central Plateau Region. In this region, 23% of the children die prior to age five, mostly due to water borne diseases. The project, which is being completed in four phases, is being funded by a $500,000 donation from District Rotarians, a $500,000 R.I. Matching Grant, and a $1 million match by world Vision. In addition, nearly 130 Rotary volunteers have traveled to Haiti to perform many humanitarian projects including building school desks, repair projects, and building homes literally from sticks and stones. “Since Rotary, the Children Stopped Dying.” |
